Kenyir Elephant Conservation Village: Natural Beauty and Elephant Care in Hulu Terengganu
Introduction of KEVC
Located in Sungai Telemong, Tasik Kenyir, Hulu Terengganu, Kenyir Elephant Conservation Village is a must-see destination for nature and animal lovers. Opened since 2012, KEVC covers an area of 256 hectares, with only 10% of this area developed. The rest is left untouched to ensure the natural habitat is preserved.
KEVC Hours of Operation
KEVC is open daily from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. On Fridays, it is temporarily closed from 12:30pm to 2:30pm.
Elephant Life at KEVC
The Kenyir Elephant Conservation Village (KEVC) is home to 18 local elephants, most of which are orphans. Some were separated from their herds in the forest, some became victims of the ivory trade, and some were arrested by villagers for damaging crops. At KEVC, these elephants receive intensive care from veterinarians and dedicated elephant keepers.
Elephant Daily Routine
Every day at KEVC is filled with special routines for each elephant. The elephant keeper, or mahout, bathes them about 6 to 7 times a day, depending on the weather. Although elephants can regulate their body temperature through their ears, frequent bathing is necessary to keep them cool and comfortable, especially during hot weather.
Elephant Evening Activity
In the afternoon, the elephants are given free rein to roam and play in the 300-acre controlled forest. These activities allow them to enjoy the natural environment in a safe and controlled environment.
Importance of KEVC in Conservation
With the efforts and dedication shown, the Kenyir Elephant Conservation Village continues to be an important sanctuary for elephants in Malaysia. KEVC not only attracts tourists from all over the world but also contributes to global efforts in the conservation and protection of elephants, ensuring that they can live in a peaceful and safe environment.
Unique Experience at KEVC
Visiting KEVC is an unforgettable experience. Visitors can see elephants up close, watch them bathe, and learn about the lives and challenges faced by this species. With its beautiful landscape and tranquil atmosphere, KEVC offers the perfect getaway for those seeking tranquility and natural beauty.
Conclusion
KEVC is living proof of how conservation efforts can make a big difference. By protecting and caring for these elephants, we not only ensure their survival but also preserve our natural heritage for future generations. Visiting KEVC is not only fun but also contributes to ongoing conservation efforts.
