Tengku Haji Mahmud bin Tengku Abu Bakar chose a design that reflects various architectural influences.
Stunning Traditional Architecture
Traditional design from Jambi, Sumatra, is evident in this house. Its roof, known as limas wrapkus, is an interesting feature. The tiles used on the roof are imported from Malabar, India, and brought to the location via Singapore and Kuala Kemaman. The use of imported materials gives this house a stunning and original aesthetic.
Division of House Structure
The house is divided into several main sections, including Guest Room, Left Porch, Right Porch, Mother's House, Bandung House, and Guest House. Each segment has a role in daily life and ceremonies, enriching the community's way of life. This uniqueness opens a window to rich local traditions and customs.
Center for Refugee Education and Experience
